Al-Hijr 15:84

وَكَانُوا۟ يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ

15:82 — And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure.

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ

15:83 — But the shriek seized them at early morning.

فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ

Ahmed Ali

And all that they had done (for security) availed them nothing.

Ahmed Raza Khan

Therefore their earnings did not in the least benefit them.

Arberry

that they earned did not avail them.

Daryabadi

Then availed them not that which they had been earning.

Hilali & Khan

And all that which they used to earn availed them not.

Itani

All they had acquired was of no avail to them.

Maududi

and whatever they had been earning proved of no avail.

Mubarakpuri

And all that they used to earn availed them not.

Pickthall

And that which they were wont to count as gain availed them not.

and what they used to earn did not avail them.

and that which they had earned did not help them.

So nothing availed them [from] what they used to earn.

Out of what they had gained, nothing proved to be of any benefit to them.

And what they earned did not avail them.

All that they had acquired was of no avail to them.

Yusuf Ali

And of no avail to them was all that they did (with such art and care)!

Transliteration

Fama aghna AAanhum ma kanoo yaksiboona

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَـَٔاتِيَةٌ ۖ فَٱصْفَحِ ٱلصَّفْحَ ٱلْجَمِيلَ

15:85 — And We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ

15:86 — Indeed, your Lord - He is the Knowing Creator.
