An-Naml 27:20

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَتَوْا۟ عَلَىٰ وَادِ ٱلنَّمْلِ قَالَتْ نَمْلَةٌ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّمْلُ ٱدْخُلُوا۟ مَسَـٰكِنَكُمْ لَا يَحْطِمَنَّكُمْ سُلَيْمَـٰنُ وَجُنُودُهُۥ وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

27:18 — Until, when they came upon the valley of the ants, an ant said, "O ants, enter your dwellings that you not be crushed by Solomon and his soldiers while they perceive not."

فَتَبَسَّمَ ضَاحِكًا مِّن قَوْلِهَا وَقَالَ رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِىٓ أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَىَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَٰلِدَىَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَـٰلِحًا تَرْضَىٰهُ وَأَدْخِلْنِى بِرَحْمَتِكَ فِى عِبَادِكَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

27:19 — So [Solomon] smiled, amused at her speech, and said, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness of which You approve. And admit me by Your mercy into [the ranks of] Your righteous servants."

وَتَفَقَّدَ ٱلطَّيْرَ فَقَالَ مَا لِىَ لَآ أَرَى ٱلْهُدْهُدَ أَمْ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْغَآئِبِينَ

Ahmed Ali

When he reviewed the Tair, he said: "How is it I do not see Hud-hud? Is he absent?

And he surveyed the birds – he therefore said, “What is to me that I do not see the Hudhud (hoopoe), or is he really absent?”

And he reviewed the birds; then he said, 'How is it with me, that I do not see the hoopoe? Or is he among the absent?

And he sought after the birds and said: what aileth me that I see not the hoopoe; is he among the absentees?

He inspected the birds, and said: "What is the matter that I see not the hoopoe? Or is he among the absentees?

Then he inspected the birds, and said, “Why do I not see the hoopoe? Or is he among the absentees?

Maududi

(On another occasion) Solomon inspected the birds and said: "Why is it that I do not see the hoopoe? Is he among the absentees?

Mubarakpuri

He inspected the birds, and said: "What is the matter that I see not the hoopoe Or is he among the absentees"

And he sought among the birds and said: How is it that I see not the hoopoe, or is he among the absent?

(Solomon) inspected the birds and said, "How is it that I cannot see the hoopoe. Is he absent?

And he reviewed the birds, then said: How is it I see not the hoopoe or is it that he is of the absentees?

Then Solomon inspected the birds, and said, "How is it that I do not see the hoopoe? Is he absent then?

Yusuf Ali

And he took a muster of the Birds; and he said: "Why is it I see not the Hoopoe? Or is he among the absentees?

Transliteration

Watafaqqada alttayra faqala ma liya la ara alhudhuda am kana mina alghaibeena

لَأُعَذِّبَنَّهُۥ عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا أَوْ لَأَا۟ذْبَحَنَّهُۥٓ أَوْ لَيَأْتِيَنِّى بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ

27:21 — I will surely punish him with a severe punishment or slaughter him unless he brings me clear authorization."

فَمَكَثَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ فَقَالَ أَحَطتُ بِمَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِهِۦ وَجِئْتُكَ مِن سَبَإٍۭ بِنَبَإٍ يَقِينٍ

27:22 — But the hoopoe stayed not long and said, "I have encompassed [in knowledge] that which you have not encompassed, and I have come to you from Sheba with certain news.
