Fussilat 41:23

وَقَالُوا۟ لِجُلُودِهِمْ لِمَ شَهِدتُّمْ عَلَيْنَا ۖ قَالُوٓا۟ أَنطَقَنَا ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنطَقَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ وَهُوَ خَلَقَكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ

41:21 — And they will say to their skins, "Why have you testified against us?" They will say, "We were made to speak by Allah, who has made everything speak; and He created you the first time, and to Him you are returned.

وَمَا كُنتُمْ تَسْتَتِرُونَ أَن يَشْهَدَ عَلَيْكُمْ سَمْعُكُمْ وَلَآ أَبْصَـٰرُكُمْ وَلَا جُلُودُكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن ظَنَنتُمْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَعْلَمُ كَثِيرًا مِّمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

41:22 — And you were not covering yourselves, lest your hearing testify against you or your sight or your skins, but you assumed that Allah does not know much of what you do.

وَذَٰلِكُمْ ظَنُّكُمُ ٱلَّذِى ظَنَنتُم بِرَبِّكُمْ أَرْدَىٰكُمْ فَأَصْبَحْتُم مِّنَ ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ

Ahmed Ali

It is this notion you had of your Lord that caused your ruin, and you are lost."

Ahmed Raza Khan

And this is the assumption you had regarding your Lord, which has ruined you, so you are now among those who have been defeated.

Arberry

That then, the thought you thought about your Lord, has destroyed you, and therefore you find yourselves this morning among the losers.'

Daryabadi

That thought of yours which ye formed concerning Your Lord, hath ruined you, and ye have become of the losers.

Hilali & Khan

And that thought of yours which you thought about your Lord, has brought you to destruction, and you have become (this Day) of those utterly lost!

Itani

It is that thought of yours about your Lord that led you to ruin—so you became of the losers.

Maududi

This thought of yours about your Lord has led to your perdition and you have become among the losers.”

Mubarakpuri

And that thought of yours which you thought about your Lord, has brought you to destruction; and you have become of those utterly lost!

Pickthall

That, your thought which ye did think about your Lord, hath ruined you; and ye find yourselves (this day) among the lost.

Qarai

That misjudgement, which you entertained about your Lord ruined you. So you became losers.’

Qaribullah & Darwish

Rather, it is the thoughts you thought about your Lord that have destroyed you, therefore, this morning you find yourselves among the losers'

Saheeh International

And that was your assumption which you assumed about your Lord. It has brought you to ruin, and you have become among the losers."

Sarwar

This was how you considered your Lord, but He knows you better than you know yourselves. Thus, you are now lost".

Shakir

And that was your (evil) thought which you entertained about your Lord that has tumbled you down into perdition, so are you become of the lost ones.

Wahiduddin Khan

but these thoughts which you entertained concerning your Lord, have brought you to destruction, and [now] you are among the utterly lost!"

Yusuf Ali

"But this thought of yours which ye did entertain concerning your Lord, hath brought you to destruction, and (now) have ye become of those utterly lost!"

Transliteration

Wathalikum thannukumu allathee thanantum birabbikum ardakum faasbahtum mina alkhasireena

فَإِن يَصْبِرُوا۟ فَٱلنَّارُ مَثْوًى لَّهُمْ ۖ وَإِن يَسْتَعْتِبُوا۟ فَمَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُعْتَبِينَ

41:24 — So [even] if they are patient, the Fire is a residence for them; and if they ask to appease [Allah], they will not be of those who are allowed to appease.

وَقَيَّضْنَا لَهُمْ قُرَنَآءَ فَزَيَّنُوا۟ لَهُم مَّا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَحَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقَوْلُ فِىٓ أُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ خَـٰسِرِينَ

41:25 — And We appointed for them companions who made attractive to them what was before them and what was behind them [of sin], and the word has come into effect upon them among nations which had passed on before them of jinn and men. Indeed, they [all] were losers.
